pcHDTV HD-5500

May 30th, 2007

I recently picked up a pcHDTV HD-5500 card for my MythTV system and have started experimenting with OTA broadcast HDTV streams. Very cool to pull down Austin City Limits in HDTV – man I love PBS.

Set up with MythTV was a snap – getting the antenna pointed in the right direction is a little more tricky. I’m now in the market for a compact external antenna in case anyone wants to gift me something.

I plan on building another MythTV backend for the basement with a new flat planel HDTV, and turning that into our own little theater. Maybe with a new Ubuntu Linux PC from Dell. What an accomplishment for the GNU/Linux operating system.

Dashboard Widgets & Stickies

May 17th, 2007

My dashboard on my work Mac is covered in stickies all the time… they’re real handy for taking little notes.

The dictionary & thesaurus are invaluable, ta-da list widget, among others are really convenient. To bring up the dashboard I just click the wheel button on my mouse, very quick access in and out. In the background is Eclipse with some PHP code I’m working on for the Alert server.
